A young woman went viral after saying a laser hair removal treatment landed her in the emergency room with burns that doctors said will likely scar.

Lekha, or @saddesigirl, posted about the incident on TikTok where the initial video received nearly 4.5 million views and 17,000 comments.

According to Statista, aesthetic lasers including hair removal and skin resurfacing are forecasted to reach $205 million in the U.S. by 2024. The average cost of laser hair removal is about $306 per treatment and experts often recommend at least four treatments.

In the video captioned "I'm gonna cry," Lekha said she went to get laser hair removal, but said the place she went to apparently did not properly know how to do non-white skin.

"I ended up with burns and I went to the ER and they said I probably will have scarring," Lekha said as she showed her right arm covered in first-degree burns from the laser. "But I was gonna ask if anyone on here knows how to take care of burns so I don't scar."

She added that her birthday is in a few weeks and she will have to cover her arm with long sleeves.

In another video, Lekha said she was able to get some medications from the hospital to treat the burns and was also listening to users' suggestions that they were leaving in the comments.

Nearly 17,000 users commented on the initial video, many offering Lekha support and advice.

"Vitamin E oil, or a silicone scar cream/gel/patches," one user suggested. "Plastic surgeons are great with scarring & a consult might be beneficial."

"Girl get a lawyer," another user commented, receiving more than 115,000 likes.

"Yup a lot of laser hair removal spots don't have the right materials for ppl with dark skin, it's better to buy a laser kit yourself but u better sue," another user wrote.

"Girl this happened to me. I kept up on aloe vera first couple of weeks after the burns and applied bio oil for months and the scars finally faded!" one user commented.

"You needa press charges," another wrote.

Newsweek reached out to Lekha for comment.

This is not the first time someone has gone viral for a cosmetic procedure-gone-wrong. In July 2021, a woman shared a TikTok captioned "what they don't tell you" about BBLs. In the video, she recalled the infection she received shortly after.

On Reddit, a man was called out for encouraging his wife to get a nose job. A woman was called "insane" after sharing an itemized list of all her treatments and cosmetic procedures.
