Unfortunately, there is a common, (possibly very real) idea that Father’s Day is not as highly recognized as Mother’s Day. That one day in June to recognise fathers for the role they play in the lives of their children is said to lack the pomp it deserves.
This Father’s Day, let's change that perception. Let’s make our daddies feel super special! Here are some ideas:
Okay! Team work makes the dream work for this particular Daddy Day surprise. Mom, gather the kids and discuss the breakfast menu. This is important so that you can decide if you need to go shopping, or if all the ingredients are already available. A nice touch would be to give it that restaurant style feel, where you offer lots of options in small portions, for example, tea and orange juice, then eggs, pancakes, sausages, french toast and fruits. You guys know daddy best so make him all of his favourites.
(If dad wakes up early, kindly ask him to remain in bed as there is a surprise on the way.)
Let’s get the kids involved. We are putting these tiny artists to work to make/draw/write something creative that is unique to them, that dad will cherish for a lifetime. Mom, be sure to ask the kids ahead of time what supplies they need so that this project can go off without a hitch. Dad will love the effort and thoughtfulness behind this gift. (This can also be added as part of the bed in breakfast surprise—a little light reading with breakfast).
Day picnics are all the rave these days! They are a great way to bring people together. These are also great because while you can pay a professional to decorate the picnic area, it can also be an opportunity for the kids to help to make an occasion special for their dad.
Find the right picnic area; it can be on the beach, in an open area or even in your yard.
The decision has to be made if you'll picnic on the ground, or if there will be benches, then from there, you’ll know if you need blankets and pillows. Of course, you’ll have all of dad’s favourite foods (cooked or catered), flowers and music for ambience, great conversation and lots of laughs.
Dad works hard, right? Sometimes all he wants to do is lay around and do nothing. This in itself can be a precious gift as well. Allow him the opportunity to kick back and relax. He may want to watch a movie, play music, read a good book or go for a walk. Whatever he chooses to do, he will appreciate the downtime.
Speaking of downtime…how about a spa day?! There are some men who do not feel that going to the spa is very manly. At the spa there are no gender roles, it’s all about relaxation and being pampered. If he is reluctant convince him to try it. A massage can work wonders. The service doesn’t even have to be a massage though, it can be as simple as a pedicure or facial. Get him in the habit of taking that downtime; it's good for mental health.
Cakes, tarts, jams, sugar cake, guava cheese, cheesecake and cupcakes…. sweets just scream love and appreciation in their own unique way. And yes, we know in this day and age there are many who are leaving the candy and the sugary treats behind, but you’ll be happy to learn that there are lots of places these days that cater to the health conscious. There are also plenty of recipes online that offer alternative ingredients to whip up amazing treats that are great for the body and the tastebuds.
These baskets are a great way to gift just about anyone. There are no rules for gift baskets. We suggest adding things you know dad will love. From socks to snacks, to wine and anything in between, dad will appreciate the thought behind this hand-picked gift.
Let’s think about getting our dads into the habit of putting the right amount of effort and energy into easily taking care of themselves with a grooming kit that holds all the essentials.
These days, many men are gravitating to being part of the bearded gang with beards that are full and long and luxurious depending on the preference of the man. With this in mind, let's offer the men a grooming kit. These kits can also be customized by you or bought from a retailer. Let’s think face wash, moisturizer, sunscreen (because you need protection from the sun no matter who you are), shaving kit, lip balm, deodorant, perfume/cologne, shower gel, comb/ brush, beard oil, hair oil, aftershave, shampoo and conditioner. Grooming kits are practical and essential.
It is important to show the people we love just how we feel about them. Dads are meant to be loved, cherished and pampered. So, this Father’s Day show the dad lots of love!
