Kenya's unemployment rate has doubled to 5.7% from 2.8% recorded in 2013 when former president Uhuru Kenyatta took over power.

According to a report by World Bank, despite the country registering an average economic growth of 5%, the unemployment rate grew higher than in the neighbouring East African nations.

This is why most graduates are venturing into entrepreneurship due to inadequate jobs.

One such graduate is 33-year-old Anne Wangare Matheri, who launched her boutique, Upstyle Collections, in Nairobi, in 2021.

Her passion for starting the boutique stemmed from buying counterfeit products on campus. She thus was on a mission to import and sell genuine products.

At first, she started by selling them to her friends and neighbours.

The entrepreneur said human hair was one of her fast-moving goods. She imports the product from Asia.

Her clients range from youth to middle-aged women suffering from hair loss due to cancer-related diseases.

The prices of the accessories range from KSh 1,000 to KSh 25,000, depending on the size and quality.

Her peak season is mainly every end month and the months of June, July, August and December.
